Firmware update to 6230 solves BMW woes.
Roger who works at BT in the UK reports:
It was long a gripe that BMW Bluetooth would not work with the tremendously popular Nokia 6230 (at least not fully), happy to report that the latest firmware update (5.24) available globally from Nokia now enables full call list dialling, caller id on stereo display etc.
So please visit a Nokia service center if you have a 6230.
If you are in the US, Nokia Service Centers don't really exist so you have to mail it in.

I have upgraded my Nokia 6230 to the lastest firmware 5.24, but I still cannot connect to the BMW Bluetooth. I can pair with the BMW device but once I started to connect, it disconnect me straight away. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

When you say it is working what do you mean?
1.SMS Reading works?
2.Voice dialing?
3.Automatic phonebook (SIM+Phone) transfer?
4.Answer+Dial calls

I think i may have stumbled across the cause of the issue. I have updated to v5.24 as well btw. And i also have this connect/disconnect issue.
It seems to stem from the fact that the phone is storing too many sms. My BMW dealer told me this seems to be the cause of many people with the same problem.
So i cleared out my Inbox. But still the issue persists. It turns out that I have these 'ghost' messages which appear on the car monitor but not my phone! They also appear on my PC when i connect the phone!
For some stupid reason they just don't seem to want to go away. Anyone got any ideas??

I have a Nokia 6230 with firmware 5.26 and works fine with a BMW X3 2005. The mobile pairs, connects, transfer SIM+Phone phonebook and dial and receive calls. The SMS don't work.
After 15 days working well, now I have the following problem: the phone connects well but after 10 seconds aprox. the phone disconnects and reconnects and so on. I have just read that can be too many SMS messages in the phone.I'll try to clean my inbox. Any other ideas?

I heard this happens with different phones but I don't know if it happens with all phones. If it happens with all then it should be a BMW problem.
To "solve" this you need to delete the messages from ALL the message boxes (Inbox,Sent....)
Does this happen with the 100% compatible phones?
(eg. T610)?

Yes, that works. I deleted ALL messages from the phone and works fine with my Nokia 6230 v5.26.

I have just bought a BMW 630 with bluetooth connectivity and cannot use my Sony Eriksson P800

I followed the instructions on this page and upgraded my Nokia 6230 to the latest firmware (5.24) to use with a 2005 645i. I also deleted all the messages that were stored on the phone. At present, my phone is able to connect with the bluetooth and remains connected. Name of the caller is displayed on the screen for incoming calls, but the phonebook does not get transfered to the car to make outgoing calls. SMS does not get displayed either. Would be great if someone could help me out?

In the US I have read that they disable Object Push Profile-OPP(needed to send phonebook) and Object Exchange Profile-OBEX(needed to send the SMSs) over bluetooth in order to force people to use their networks (people are sueing Verizon for this). As a result they cant send their phonebook and SMS. I have read also that cracks apeared on the Internet but its illegal to install them!

Bought a new Nokia 6230 with software version 5.30 for my new BMW 525 last month. Works fine with Bluetooth on the car audio and on the navigation screen, even though BMW dealer told me it was impossible to use a Nokia. Clearly he was wrong. The trick is to get the latest software in the Nokia.
No problems with connecting/disconnecting as metioned by some other postings here before.

Ordered a new bmw X3, the bluetooth will no doubt work but im missing out on the snap in phone adapter and charging ability as BMW in their wisdom do not make an adapter for this astronomically poular phone, meanwhile if seen some adapters for the ugliest stupidest phones on the planet but not mine! whats up with that, we need someone to make some third party snap ins for this system which will no doubt catch on!

Hi,
I've got a 2003(late) Z4. My dealer has just ordered a new ULF module, so the latest bluetooth firmware can be loaded onto it.
I currently have a 6230, but will try a 6230i as that is what BMW say WILL work.
If this does work, I will post an update!

Okay. I got my 6230 upgraded to the latest firmware and it works with my Z4 (without the new ulf module).
The firmware upgrade to the phone was free, as it was under a year old and I had it done at a Nokia Service center!
I'm still going to get the ulf upgraded on the car, as this will increase future compatibility (I hope!).

He actualizado el firmware de mi teléfono a 5.35 y es totalmente compatible con el BT del e90.
Habrá que esperar un poco al Snap-In. Si alguien sabe donde conseguirle que me escriba un correo por favor...
